Four ways to use silane coupling agent

1. Direct mixing and direct participation of silane is the simplest method for coupling modification of particulate fillers in liquid resin. For example, when mixing rubber, directly mix WD-40 silane granular filler for immediate disposal. The consequences of adding silane depend on the ability of the filler to adsorb silane during the mixing operation.
2. Dispose of the filler with the organic solvent of silane. This method is to mix the filler with the dilute solution of silane in the organic solvent, then filter and dry. Compared with the case of using an aqueous solution, the anhydrous solvent makes the silane deposited on the filler profile closer to the monomolecular layer, and the treated fine particle filler is different from the situation during the disposal of the aqueous solution, and does not agglomerate when dried.
3. Disposal of filler with aqueous solution When disposing of glass fiber, almost all silane (and other common agents) in water is used to evacuate. It is useful to dispose of coarse-grained fillers such as glass beads and glass fibers with an aqueous solution, which dries easily and does not agglomerate. Fine-particle fillers can also be disposed of with aqueous solutions, but the spray dry bath method is required to avoid forming lumps.
4. Disposal of filler by dry mixing method. Disposal of filler by dry mixing method is to hope that the high volume filler can store a large amount of silane in a stable dry powder form. There are monomeric silanes available for migration. Sufficient evacuation of silane on the filler profile may take more than a few days. The usual transportation and storage time is sufficient to allow the silane to be adequately evacuated from the bulk of the filler. Generally speaking, ethoxysilane or propoxysilane is much more stable in filler profile than methoxysilane. In the use of silane coupling agents in composite materials, it is necessary to fully consider the characteristics of organic polymers and inorganic materials, select suitable silanes, and choose accurate utilization methods according to its production process characteristics to achieve economical and practical results.
